I adore this skirt. I have a lot of thrifted treasures, and really, I have a lot of thrifted skirts. Pants just don’t fit me well, and thrifting pants is hard (more about that in this post).
But this skirt – it has become a staple in my closet, a three-season staple, and yet - it almost didn’t make it home with me. I bought it last year – more than a year ago I think, on a thrifting adventure with – who else – my friend Bethany (she’s been around for so many of my best thrifting adventures – thank you for thrifting with me Bethany!). I saw it on the rack, and was immediately drawn to the color and the pleats. I’m not a hug fan of 80′s polyester, so it lost points for that. And it was a weird length – half-way down my calves, so I figured it would need to be altered. I just wasn’t sure about it. But it only cost a few dollars, so I bought it, and it sat in the back of my closet for a while.
Fast forward to now, and the past few seasons; midi-length skirts are all the rage (so glad I didn’t shorten it, like I’d planned!). The bright color and pleats have been so trendy lately, and I bet you I’ve worn this skirt a dozen times. It seems to cross it’s way along seasons too – it’s pretty in the spring (with a light cardigan), summer (with a front-knotted t-shirt), and now fall (with a 3/4 sleeve top & heels for work), and I’m sure I’ll find a way to wear it in the colder months to. So, dear cobalt pleated skirt – I’m so glad I took a chance on you!
What I’m wearing: cobalt blue midi skirt: thrifted (similar here), H&M top (old, similar/fun version here), Paris Hilton D’Orsay leopard (similar/sequin version here), vintage beaded purse, Target braided glitter belt, borrowed Ray Bun sunnies, arm party: F21 bangles (old), J.Crew sunflower pearl bracelet (faux version still available on eBay), F21 chunky chain bracelet (pricey, but similar Michael Kors version here)
Isn’t that car fabulous? We may have done some minor trespassing to get these shots…
About these shoes – they are one of the cutest, and most uncomfortable pairs that I own. You should’ve seen me trying to walk around in the dirt in them. Hilarious.
Once again, all photos by my talented friend and burgeoning photographer Caty Dearing of CatyDear Photography. You can check out her blog here, and her Facebook page here. Thanks again, Caty!
Do you have a piece of clothing like this in your closet? Something easily worn across the seasons? If so, I want to know about it!
